The balneological springs of the village of Hankavan have the most valuable water in terms of treatment and prevention among similar balneological springs in Armenia. Hankavan is a village-sanatorium 85 kilometers from Yerevan, in the Kotayk region, in the picturesque valley of the Marmarik River.
The most famous spring comes from a well several hundred meters deep and is located at an altitude of over 1900 meters above sea level in the upper reaches of the river. The waters are hydrocarbonate-chloride sodium.
The water temperature in the main area reaches 39°, mineralization 8.7 g/l, content (H2SiO3+HSiO3) 67 mg/l, also contains a large amount of iron. The source itself is divided into 6 pools-bathing rooms, designed for no more than 6 people, located in the open air.
There is no warm changing room at the Hankavan spring, so only the bravest swim here in winter. After swimming, it is not recommended to take a shower or bath for 12 hours to increase the beneficial effect of the spring waters on the human body. The place is popular with skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts as a great place to warm up and relieve muscle tension after skiing. They work 24 hours. Thermal water in the bath-pool costs 5000 drams for 1 hour or 2500 drams for 30 minutes. The rooms can accommodate up to 6 people. The price is per room, not per person.
